How to buy a stock?

How to buy a stock?-i recently got into etrade and i have $1000 in my account but whenever i try to buy a stock it acts like its confirmed and shows it in the orders but isnt actually confirmed. also what does good for the day mean in the term section?

You should not be investing. Before any one invest they should know what they're doing, why they're doing it, how to do it, rules governing what they're doing. You know none of these.

The last thing you need is a brokerage account, most educated people open an account only after they know what to do.

Not sure what you mean by "it acts like it's confirmed" We could given you an educated response if you explained what you mean by "it".

All orders entered in any system are considered "day" orders only unless notified differently. (day orders expire when the market closes)

You have a very long way to go before you should enter an order - try studying and learn about the markets
1. Know the basics:

These are the key concepts that need to be learn before moving onto learning to trade;

Learn the aspects a share has e.g. dividends, bid/ask price, its chart etc.
* Know what information (software/websites) is required to buy shares.
* Learn how the stock market works
* Know of the risk involved with trading shares

2. Open a practice account
3. Subscribe to a news site
4. Educate yourself
5. Open a brokerage account
6. Obtain charting software
7. Subscribe to a quality newsletter
8. Start practice trading
9. Start real trading
10. Further your knowledge
